Architectural Scientist, Acoustics, Audio and Broadcast Engineer |
Paul Conroy is a freelance architectural scientist specialising in acoustics, audio, designing for comfortable building spaces, and broadcast engineering. He has extensive project management, delivery, and operational and technical experience in the Australian radio and television industry.
Paul completed his Masters of Architectural Science (Audio and Acoustics) (High Performance Buildings) at Sydney University, where he gained specialised skills in CAD, 3D printing, glass acoustics, building energy modelling, and lighting design, to name a few. Paul's worked at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's in Ultimo for nearly 2 decades. Paul delivered to the ABC, development plans, and implementation of the operational replacement strategies of their centralised radio (audio) router with nil planned outage time, as well as training staff on new software, managing national transmission, ensuring network scheduled switching, and standby arrangements. Paul also worked for ABC Grandstand as a technical director for several international cricket tests, as well as ongoing work as an at-ground producer and technical director for A-league, NRL, AFL, rugby, Sheffield Sheild, golf, and many other sporting codes. Paul completed a contract with the Macquarie Radio Network as Team Leader, Operations Manager, and Chief Technician for 2GB's 2008 Beijing Olympic Games coverage, as well as several seasons overseeing the technical aspects of their NRL broadcasting. Prior to a career in broadcasting, Paul gained experience as a live audio engineer for many local Sydney bands and ensembles for over a decade, worked as a noise consultant for two specialist environmental and architectural acoustic firms, hand coded HTML for websites, taught audio engineering at the Australian Institute of Music, and worked on an acoustics research project with CSIRO in collaboration with a local microphone manufacturer. When not working, Paul enjoys hanging out with his partner Astrid, friends, and family, playing the piano and double bass, writing music, travelling, coaching rowing, reading a decent novel, boating, gardening, listening to wide-ranging genres of music from classical to electronic, renovating, training in the gym, and cooking.
